In retrospect, I had been preparing for this change for a long time. After several years of study and practice, I became a Certified Reiki Master Teacher in 2004 through the International Center for Reiki Training.
In 2011, I became a Certified Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, which is a cutting-edge health coach training program based in Manhattan. During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, lifestyle management techniques and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. I am also a member of the International Association for Health Coaches.
I studied massage therapy at the Gentle Healing School of Massage in Cranbury, NJ and received my massage therapy license (18KT00736800) from the New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy in 2014. I also successfully completed the national massage therapy licensing exam from the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards in 2014. In addition, I am a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals organization.
In 2014, I was admitted to the Nutritional Sciences program at Rutgers University, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and will continue my part-time studies there with the goal of receiving a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics. In addition, I am a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
I became certified in the Vodder technique of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) therapy in 2015.
Hello! I am Doreen Garelick and I know from personal experience that wellness treatments help me feel healthier and improve my quality of life. I have Type 1 Diabetes and I work with my physician to use an insulin pump and a continuous blood glucose monitor to manage this disease. I also struggle with the patience, persistence and strength it takes to live with this, or any other chronic medical condition. For decades, in addition to excellent medical care, I have relied on nutrition counseling, massage therapy, health coaching and Reiki to help improve my level of wellness. Over time, in addition to experiencing these wellness treatments, I learned to give them to others.
I founded Menu of Wellness, LLC in 2014 so I can help others who are living with a chronic medical condition to reach an improved level of wellness - a balance of physical, mental and emotional states that can improve the quality of your life. I offer these services in a comfortable, safe and specialized first floor room in the private environment of my home.
Helping others improve their level of wellness was not always the focus of my professional life.... I graduated from Clark University in 1983 with a double major bachelor’s degree in Biology and Science, Technology & Society. After that, I attended Brooklyn Law School and graduated in 1986 with a Juris Doctor degree. For the next five years, I worked on biotechnology patent matters at a Manhattan law firm. In 1991, I accepted a position in the law department of a Fortune 500 biopharmaceutical company. During my last six years at that company, I was the global Chief Compliance & Ethics officer. I left the corporate sector in 2013 and took my professional life in a new direction, which still inspires my soul every day.
